Protect Conroe ISD Libraries and Librarians
We, the undersigned, call on the Conroe ISD School Board and administration to restore transparency, fairness, and community representation in decisions involving school libraries and book challenges.
Students deserve access to age-appropriate books that reflect the diversity, experiences, and values of the broader Conroe ISD community. Recent actions surrounding book challenges and library policies have raised serious concerns about transparency, inconsistent review processes, and the exclusion of parents, educators, and librarians from meaningful decision-making. Professional librarians and educators are trained to select materials that support learning, critical thinking, and student growth.
We urge the Conroe ISD School Board to protect intellectual freedom, support our librarians, and ensure that school libraries remain places where all students can learn, explore, and feel represented.
Protect our libraries. Protect our librarians. Protect our students’ freedom to read.
Why is this important?
Conroe ISD libraries have been impacted by missing book challenges, librarian self-censorship, and inconsistent book review practices. Parents deserve the right to make reading decisions for their own children, while librarians should be trusted to use their professional expertise to select and evaluate books that reflect diverse experiences and meet a variety of student needs. Moreover, AI cannot replace the careful judgment required to review library materials. If you agree, please sign this petition.
